<h1>Your Florida DUI/DWI Traffic Ticket-Are You Going To Jail?</h1> There are just under quarter of a million DUI Citations issued in Florida yearly. Florida was one of the first states to let convenience stores carry beer, even drive thrus. If you see the statistics nobody is immune, doctors to politicians and of course the construction industry. When consruction crews start at the crack of dawn, what time do you think they break for lunch? I've seen them grab a six pack for lunch at the convenience store or their trucks parked out front at the local bar.<br /><br />I was really suprised when I blew a .09 on the breathalizer. I thought was in okay and in control. The next few days it dawned on me, I was lucky. How many other times had I drinking and driving and not been caught? I was also lucky to not been in a traffic accident. There are 15,000 alcohol related deaths each year in the United States. There are also close to 50,000 traffic accidents where alcohol was involved. My guardian angel must have my back.<br /><br />I didn't go to jail. I was in shock. Somehow one of my college buddies got to drive us back to our dorm. Over the course of the week it stuck me what a DUI conviction would do to my life. Not only would I lose my Florida Drivers License. I could be labeled a Florida Habitual Offender. Didn't sound good. You never appreciate driving as much as when it could be taken away. There are too many people riding bikes in Florida. After researching on the internet, I found I could be fined $1000 and be sent to jail for six months. Yikes!<br /><br />My college roomate, Pete, gave me the best advice I could of gotten. He said hire a good DUI Attorney. After talking to several DUI attorneys, I found a one with extensive DUI experience and I felt comfortable with him.<br /><br />Best move I ever made. I had considered a public defender. But, most public defenders are over worked, carrying heavy case loads. Would the public defender I was assigned be an expert in the DUI Laws in Florida? The charges were reduced to reckless driving and $250 in fines. And no jail time. I still had to take a Driving Under The Influence Course at a Florida Traffic School and jump through a few other hoops.
