How often, after a relaxing and lazy weekend, do you have the feeling, that you wasted something valuable?

From my own experience time is a very valuable commodity. I often enjoy a weekend with not many things to do, no pressing task to accomplish, but just to lean back, maybe watch some TV re-runs and hang out with friends. I really do, but once in a while I get bitten by the activity bug and then I have to get out and get something done.

That so happened to me this weekend, and writing this article is the end of a very busy and productive day.

It all started out with my decision to go see some friends to hang out with and going into my closet to find some shirt to wear. But instead I came away from the closet with an old tie-dye shirt. I don't know why it happened at this time (because I had seen that shirt hanging there many times), but it reminded me that I always wanted to do some tie-dyeing myself.

I had actually bought some books a while back and one of those books I now found pretty quickly as my apartment is not too big, and I dug in. The first part I only skimmed. It had lots of information about the history of dyeing in general and of tie-dye in particular, but with much of this I was very familiar so I did not spend much time with it. My urge now was to get to the DO something.

I found out that I needed some more supplies and I had to go out and get rubber bands, spring and other little things like cloth-pins etc. But back at my place I went to work and learned about the horizontal and vertical pleats that will create stripes when dyed, I learned about the techniques to make circular patterns and the well known spiral. This was the pattern I needed the cloth-pin for.

In the Wikipedia article about tie-dye I had found one very interesting method to tie-dye, called mudmee tie-dye and after checking out the site that offers clothing made in this fashion I even attempted to create these type of patterns.

Time will show because I had to stop myself in my spurt of activity because the weekend is coming to an end and I have to be energized for work tomorrow, but I still wanted to get this article here written, mostly to remind myself and hopefully somebody else as well, that a lazy Sunday can be so much better if you are not lazy.
