It’s a tough world today if you are involved in the business of purveying information. Newspapers, magazines, television, radio and other information merchants have to face a growing list of competitors coming from all directions.

Everyone is fighting to grab a piece of the action. Big players and small timers. You can say it’s fair game for all, and we can thank the Internet explosion as the catalyst that opened the floodgates.

It’s equally tough for those who consume information. Now you have plenty of choices. Too much if you’re not adept at filtering what you don’t need. Net info is like bees buzzing around your head.

The Internet has become the greatest source of information. Dare we say it’s the mother of all information purveyors? Kaboom! And we are all inundated by a zillion megawatts of information overload.

Well, at least it seems that way to a lot of folks, like you and me. We are simply overwhelmed.

Such is the impact of information overload; there is a school of thought that traditional newspapers may not see it through the next decade.

It can be daunting and exciting at the same time. It’s a new ball game out there. Welcome to the brave new e-world of information overload!

So when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Sounds like a cliché. Maybe that’s how we should face this challenge. Learn how to reap the benefits that the Net can offer without being intimated by its aura.

New Economy. Knowledge Workers. Global Village. Catchy phrases for those driving on the super information highway. And where does that leave the next guy who still can’t understand how and why a ten-year old kid can take to a PC like a duckling to water?

This is the Internet Age. If you don’t click and join the party you’ll go blind! I can’t remember where I got this notion. I suspect I must have heard it on the grapevine . . .via the Internet. That’s getting connected. Wow!
