Australian immigration: Citizenship testing expanded in Northern Territory
After concerns have been raised by local councils and community leaders about travel distances for applicants, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship has increased the number of test locations in the Northern Territory. Testing has begun in the north-eastern town of Nhulunbuy, and is also expected to begin in Katherine later this month. This much-needed expansion in aid of immigration adds to arrangements under which citizenship testing is conducted in Darwin, which is from Monday to Friday every week, as well as in Alice Springs two days every month. Citizenship tests will now be available every quarter in Nhulunbuy and Katherine. If you need to do this test, you can make an appointment by phoning 08 8946 3175. Introduced in October 2007, the citizenship test includes 20 multiple choice questions based on the resource booklet "Becoming an Australian Citizen". If you are interested in taking the next step from immigration to citizenship, you can obtain the booklet from the DIAC by either phoning 131 880, or download it from the DIAC citizenship website. If you need any advice or assistance in immigrating or travelling to Australia, Canada or the UK, Migration Expert’s registered migration consultants and lawyers are available to provide you with professional and individually tailored services.
